Ruki’s Ruki & Friends concert on 27th April 2025 goes down in the history of Accra’s good old Rising Phoenix’s concert records as the venue’s best lit or its most colourful music concert ever, as the concert came off magnificent with the undisputable record-breaking novelty of a metal stage mounted at a virgin spot of the venue, a LED screen, a wild audience rave and a market-competitive video coverage that’s very fit for a music brand commercial.
Rising Phoenix, formerly and still popularly known as Akuma Village, is a venue in Accra, Ghana, that serves as the most go-to place for reggae and dancehall events. Ruki had been performing at Rising Phoenix for close to a decade, starting from the early days of her career.
It was rather unfortunate that the rains threatened the staging of the event in the early evening of 26th, Saturday, and management has to postpone the vent to Sunday 27th. Management recorded a rain damage when the mounted LED screen fell down on the stage with a heavy thud am it got drenched inside. It was replaced the next morning with a smaller LED screen.
Compared to her previous concert performance ratings, Ruki’s well-controlled delivery at Ruki & Friends 2025 left a plausible memorable proof that her once critically-assesed brand has gained an obvious fine growth overtime, — she returned to the stage with a cleverly honed craft that is evident of world-class stage craftsmanship. Predicted right, Ruki’s next set of songs won’t only have a replay value and a five star rate, but they are most likely to have a global market appeal which will go a long way to earn her a fast-widening multinational fan base.
Performing for over 40 minutes on a single stage set with such a pleasing entertaining flair that commanded a seamless audience engagement from the open song until the last song faded off, it is safe to say Ruki made every fan’s attendance worthwhile her whole delivery.
To make meaningful her Hausa Dancehall Queen moniker, Ruki performed a special string of 6 or more Hausa songs in between a few full English selections. It was a delightful sight to witness how her Hausa songs threw her die-hard Zongo fans into a boisterous sing-along frenzy and they would rushed the stage if they didn’t dread immediate bouncer refrain.
The Taking Over Band worked in rapt sync with Ruki all through her performance to deliver a flawless artiste-band harmony. Same they did with all the guest artistes and that offered the audience a satisfying live band experience.
According to Martin Quarpong (Jah Martin), Ruki’s day one manager, their One Family Yard label in collaboration with other event houses will be staging the Ruki & Friends concert next year too and the years ahead to make Ruki & Friends an annual usual.
Ruki and Friend 2025 was organized by One Family Yard in collaboration with Africa Unite Sound.
