Any Jamaican lady that dated a white man in those eras suffered peer mockery and public stern against her choice. How then could Bob Marley woo Cheryl, Rita and even more Jamaican women later in the 60’s and 70’s? His rare possibility was sparked by this tri-combo: he was handsome, talented and a man of a great celebrity status. Another reason was that the women Bob had badly just wanted to have an half caste child, not marriage.
Rita was an exception. She foresaw Bob’s timeless global success and chose more than just handsomeness, talent, fame, marriage and children. She wanted to benefit from Bob’s foreseen incoming epic career legacy too, and she helped him build it to an historic height. Cindy Breakspeare was a close second to Rita, though, as far as visioning Bob’s future superstar legacy went back then.

Rita gave birth to Sharon in 1964 before marrying Bob Marley in 1966. She gave birth to Stephanie with Owen Stewart in 1974 while she was still married to Bob. After Bob died in 1981, Rita went back to Owen Stewart, got pregnant for him again and gave birth to Serita in 1985.
While alive, Bob adopted Sharon and Stephanie. Serita is his posthumous step-child.
Bob Marley only had three children with Rita Marley: Cedella, Ziggy and Stephen.
