In a much-awaited reply diss track to an ego-disturbing line in Kendrick Lamar’s guest verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” joint in which Kendrick references himself as a superior rapper to J Cole and Drake, angry J Cole claps back with “7 Minute Drill” and that has got Cole World fans concluding that Kendrick has been grilled —–but die hard Kendrick fans are countering with a frim contrary view the back-clap is full of caps and warp bars.
This Cole-Kendrick beef started after J Cole boastfully said in Drake’s “First Person Shooter” track that he is the best among Kendrick and Drake. J Cole, Kendrick Lamar and Drake have been critically positioned above their rap generation mates by hip hop heads as the best three. Of this best three positioning is a war among them as to which of them is top best, but the super crown has mostly been a trophy being contest for by J Cole and Kendrick and these two have been throwing subtle diss shots of superiority at each other.
Kendrick might have felt it a hard knock on his ego and an unacceptable claim when J Cole boasted to be best among him and Drake. Kendrick attacked back saying there is no best three, but there is only best him. J Cole had a heap of pressure mounted on him by diss-loving rap fans to expressly reply to Kendrick’s lone top best claim.
In Drake’s “First Person Shooter”, J Cole said: ” We the big three like we started a league, but right now, I feel like Muhammed Ali”. In Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” track, Kendrick said: “Mother***k the best three, “it’s best me”. This Kendrick’s counter line sparked up a heated debate in the streets as to who is the best among Drake, J Cole and him.
It was really going to be a hot diss run in recent hip hop history when Kendrick boldly spat his controversial superiority battle line in Joe Budden’s “Control” and a lot of hip hop heads worldwide impatiently started clamouring hard for a quick separate or collaboration reply diss track from Drake and J Cole to force Kendrick down then boom!….angry J Cole that first seemed utterly unconcern comes out with “A 7 Minute Drill”.
J Cole’s “7 Minute Drill” partly sounds friendly somehow, but it has some serious wild shots that degrade Kendrick’s catalog. J said only Kendrick’s first album is a classic, that the rest are mid or warp projects. Some hip hop heads are saying these catalog judgments by J Cole are untrue.
Contrary testimonies from critics that don’t agree with J Cole that Kendrick’s second, third and fourth albums are non-classic countered that Kendrick’s “Section 80”, “To Pimp A Butterfly”, DAMN and “Mr Morale And The Hot Steppers” are all classics. Surprisingly, some hip hop heads are saying J Cole’s works are mid and don’t have a replay value or the masterpiece tag, though he is a good rapper. Others say he’s better than Kendrick in some craft aspects. Some also say Kendrick is overhyped.
Cole’ degradation of Kendrick’s catalog goes like:
“Your first sh*t was classic,
Your last shit was tragic,
Your second sh*t put n****s to sleep,
But they gassed it”
That wasn’t all, Cole added these: ““It’s only when he’s dissing that people be discussing him”, “Your hands might be too short to box with a god”, “He averaging one hard verse like every thirty months or something, If he wasn’t dissing’, then we wouldn’t be discussing’ him”. “Your arms might be too short to box with the god who live his life without the pressures of a constant facade”, and “Four albums in twelve years, n**** , I can divide” are some of the other “7 Minute Drill” diss lines that are making the core of the debate back and forth on social media.
Some fans cited this stage of the beef as just the warm up, that the real stage of the diss battle is yet to begin when Kendrick replies and Drake joins the fray.
