Nana-Yaw Adu Gyamfi better known by his stage name Obi Yawblakk, is a Finnish-Ghanaian recording artist. He is a versatile artist who does #Reggae, #Dancehall, Hip-hop and #Afrobeats as his major genres. He is a human right activist and an entrepreneur, the founder of Black Root Music and Black Root Clothing.
The talented musician who hails from the #Ashanti region of #Ghana sings in Twi, a popular #Ghanaian dialect and also in English, Pidgin(broken English) and Jamaican patois as well. Though he is influenced by many genres of music and icons such as Kojo Antwi, Daddy Lumba, Okomfuor Kwadee, Fela Kuti, Tupac Shakur and many more, Bob Nesta Marley stands as his major icon and inspiration.
The multilingual musician who grew up both in Ashanti Effiduasi and Asante Akim Juaso(his father’s and mother’s home respectively) uses his music as a tool to educate and inspire the public especially the youth on social issues which undermines the basic human rights and economic freedom.
Although he started his musical journey back in Ghana but along the way took a break when he moved to one of the world’s coldest country, Finland. The Helsinki based musician has shared stages with the likes of Patoranking, Stonebwoy, Kabaka Pyramid and Chronixx. The year 2020 came as a wake up call to the vibrant artist to start it all over again! He had already released his first single and major reggae song, #Africa We From which features, the rapper Deezi from Cote D’ivoire and Zin Zin from Gambia in 2018. Through out the year 2020 the dynamic musician has been working from his Black Root Music Studio where he has been recording his debut EP entitled Chapter 20 verse 20 (Chapter 20:20) which is set to be released on 20.12.20.
The most anticipated EP which contains 7 tracks is a package of Liberation, joy and Love. It has reggae, dancehall and afrobeats on it which makes a dynamic one! It is of no surprise that afrobeats has made it way to his debut EP as he started as a High-life and a Hip-life artist back in his motherland Ghana. High-life music has been one of the mainstream genres in Ghana and has a huge influence on the trending Afrobeats!
